I was ecstatic to be heading off to New York for the first time in my adult life. The last time I was here I was 16 years old on a choir trip to perform at Carnegie Hall (no big deal). But with all my binge watching shows like Friends & How I Met Your Mother, I've been dying for a chance to experience NY for real!
First off, this was my first time being able to see the "other side" of New York as I didn't actually stay in New York City. One of the main purposes of traveling to NY in the first place was to celebrate this girl's birthday...
My awesome and fabulous "cousin" is turning 25 so besides needing a trip to NY in general, it was also time for our overdue reunion. So I stayed with her in Dix Hills, Long Island which definitely opened my eyes that there was a lot more to New York than the concrete jungle that is The City. It definitely had the suburbia feel that I have pretty much grew up to in Fort Worth but I could definitely appreciate the greenery around Long Island for sure.
One of our first adventures took us to Patchogue, NY on Long Island to check out the Blue Point Brewing Co. microbrewery. They just happen to have free samples of all their seasonal ales. Anything free is great, free beer on the other hand is the dream!
The next day was loads of fun as we ventured over to the village of Northport, NY on Long Island; where after a hefty brunch at Shipwreck diner, we checked out the peer.
That same day we moseyed our way to Centerport, basically on the other side of the harbor to check out the mansion of William Vanderbilt II aka Eagle's Nest.
Must be nice to say that you have your own boat house where you can board your private yacht...
And then the view of the backyard...
Who needs breakfast in bed? I could get used to this view...
After wrapping up our adventures around Long Island, the next couple days we headed into New York City itself to take care of business. Of course with me being such a HUGE fan of the show "How I Met Your Mother", I had to check out McGee's Pub which was the bar that was the inspiration of the show!
And then the wall of playbill posters at The Marriott Marquis
This is my first time ever being in Central Park and with the weather being as beautiful as it was, it was definitely a busy and fun day...
Managed to wander into Strawberry Fields in Central Park.
And then to end my short tour of Central Park at the Bethesda Fountain.
But of course, I couldn't end my trip to New York without at least grabbing a night shot of the ever-so-famous Radio City Music Hall
And that is pretty much it as far as the photos taken my DSLR camera. I took a ton more with my phone, and especially the time when I dined at the Haven Rooftop bar. To see those pictures, follow me on Instagram @adrean_i or check out my Facebook page, www.facebook.com/adreaniphotography
